Technology

Inside the machines.

Two indoor units, one quiet condenser, and a great deal of engineering you'll never have to think about. This page is for the people who like to look anyway.

The wall unit

Slim, flat — and full of quiet ideas.

Cool air leaves through 2,430 micro-holes across a completely flat fascia, so it arrives as a drift rather than a draught. A soft-air mode diffuses it further still, and in heating the anti-cold-air logic holds the fan back until the coil is warm — no chilly gust while it wakes up.

The floor unit

Where the radiator used to live.

The strongest heater in the range and the quietest unit we fit, in the radiator position. Here's the engineering inside it.

The outdoor unit

One condenser runs the whole house.

This is the picture that explains our entire approach. Ordinary installers bolt one outdoor box on the wall per room. We fit a single condenser, and every room in the house runs from it.

The usual way — five rooms, five condensers. Noise, clutter, and a planning headache.
The Coole & Frost way — the same five rooms, one quiet condenser, inside permitted development.
  • Wall and floor units mix freely on the same condenser, each room on its own controls
  • Pipe runs to 35 m per room and 15 m of height — garden condenser, loft bedroom, no problem
  • Start with the bedrooms; add rooms later without replacing the outdoor unit
  • Even the largest is a fifth of the size planning rules allow
  • Night mode drops the outdoor sound when the street goes quiet
  • Anti-vibration mounts as standard; cedar-slatted screens to order

Built for January

Heats at minus twenty-five.

The condensers we specify keep heating at outdoor temperatures down to −25°C — colder than London has ever recorded, and comfortably beyond anything a January cold snap can throw at them. Around four units of heat for every unit of electricity, all season.

A bright bedroom kept cool and fresh — the unit quietly cleans its own coil and filters the air

Self-care

It looks after itself — and the air.

Between services, the system quietly maintains itself. The indoor coil freezes, thaws and flushes its own gold-coated fins clean, then dries itself to stop anything growing. UV sterilisation and a stack of washable filters deal with what's in the air rather than just its temperature — and if anything ever does go wrong, the unit diagnoses itself and tells our engineers in plain English.

Control

Three ways to say 18 degrees.

A handset whose i-Feel sensor reads the temperature at your armchair, not at the ceiling. And Wi-Fi in every unit from day one.
